Speech of the Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Parliamentary Affairs at the launch of five modernisation projects of CBI at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 6th August, 2007

It is indeed my pleasure to launch new Schemes of CBI, which will be of immense help to improve the working conditions of the organization and also to enhance its efficiency. Today CBI has established itself as the premiere investigating agency of the country. CBI has grown in size, manpower and workload. This growth is likely to continue in the future as the CBI performs its role as the National coordinator of countrywide law enforcement operations. Hence there is need to introduce the changes in the system to equip the organization to meet the emerging challenges posed by advancement of technology and to address issues of image, morale and brand building

The new state-of-art CBI Head Office Building will bring all the offices of CBI located at Delhi under the single roof. It would provide ambient environment for working with proper access control for better staff productivity.

E-learning Programme for employees will equip them with the basic skills required in the computer enabled office set-up.

New digital Identity Card will ensure proper access control and security of the documents and the information. The new Website of CBI will provide a new spectrum of information about the organization to the common people which will help the organization to come closer to the common people.

The in-house magazine will provide a forum to the employees about the changes and new developments taking place in the organization.

Due to its organisational structure, vast experience and an immensely talented pool of trained and committed personnel, the CBI is today uniquely placed to seize the initiative and consolidate its status as the country's apex agency excelling in investigative methods & technologies, an intelligence storehouse and a centre of research & development. If the CBI has to so consolidate its position, it has to further transform itself and the initiative for such a transformation has also to come from within the organisation. CBI should thus have a forward-looking vision of transforming itself into a world-class specialised agency. I am happy to know that CBI has already appointed a consultant to study and submit report on comprehensive modernization, capacity building, upgradation programme to meet the future needs.

I hope the steps taken will improve their efficiency of performance of the officers and the organisation.

I am sure that the CBI will continue with its tradition of excellence by adopting new technology to meet the future challenges. I, once again, convey my deep appreciation of the excellent work done by the CBI. I convey to all of you my very best wishes for the future."

THANK YOU
